What is a Simple Sentence?


A simple sentence, also called an independent clause, contains a subject and a predicate (verb + object), and it expresses a complete thought. In other word, sentence with one subject and one predicate is called as a simple sentence.




    Subject  +  Predicate

1) He          +   is my best friend.

2) King       +   gave the punishment to him.

3) She        +   always comes late.

4) Birds      +   flies up in the sky.

5) They      +   have hands to work.      



Note:  Subject is either Noun or Pronoun or Noun Clause and Predicate always begins with auxiliary verb or main verb.
